Privacy policy
Last updated 31 October 2026
Amin is a money tracker for Android and the web, made by Zaid Shaikh. This policy explains what Amin does with your information. In short: Amin has no servers and collects nothing about you. Your data stays on your devices and, if you turn on sync, in your own Google Drive.
What Amin stores, and where
Everything you enter — entries, accounts, categories, budgets, notes, people and loans, photos and files you attach, and settings — is kept in a database on your device (in the browser's storage for the web app). It never goes to the developer.
Google sign-in and Google Drive
Google Drive sync is optional. If you turn it on, Amin asks Google for two kinds of access:
-
Its own hidden app folder in your Drive (
drive.appdata). Amin keeps one file there per device with a copy of your data, so your phone and the web app can stay in step, and a dated backup copy once a week (the last 8 are kept). This folder is visible only to Amin, not to other apps. -
Files Amin creates (
drive.file). Photos and PDFs you attach are uploaded to an "Amin" folder in your Drive. Amin cannot see any other file in your Drive.
Amin reads your Google account's email address only to show which account is connected. Data from Google is used only to provide sync to you; it is not sold, shared, used for advertising, or read by people. Amin's use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
You can turn sync off at any time, or delete all of Amin's data from your Drive with More › Backup › Google Drive sync › Delete data in Google Drive. You can also remove Amin's access in your Google account's security settings.
Notification access (Android, optional)
If you allow it, Amin reads notifications only from the apps you pick (for example your bank's app or your messages app) and keeps those that contain an amount, so you can approve them as entries. This happens entirely on your phone; the text is not sent anywhere. Approved and pending items are part of your data and sync like the rest if Drive sync is on.
Location (optional)
With location tagging on, Amin saves where each new entry was made. To show a city name, it sends those coordinates — and nothing else about you — to free map services (Photon by Komoot, based on OpenStreetMap, and BigDataCloud as a fallback). When you type a place, the text you type is sent to Photon to suggest cities.
Exchange rates
Amin downloads currency exchange rates from the open exchange-api project (through jsDelivr and Cloudflare Pages). These requests contain only the currency asked for, no personal information.
App updates
Every few hours the app checks this website for a newer version, by downloading a small file that lists the latest version number. The request carries no information about you or your data; like any web request, it reaches the website's host (Netlify) with your IP address.
This website
This website and the web app are hosted by Netlify, which keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) for security and operation. The web app's data stays in your browser.
Visit counts
This website and the web app count visits with Umami, run on the developer's own server. It records the page opened, the referring site, browser, device type and country, and on this website whether the Android download was tapped. It uses no cookies, does not store your IP address and cannot tell who you are. Nothing you enter in the web app — entries, amounts, accounts, notes — is ever sent. The Android app counts nothing.
Camera, photos and files
Amin uses the camera, your photo gallery and the file picker only when you choose to attach a photo, a PDF, a backup or a picture icon. Only what you pick is read.
No ads or tracking
Amin contains no advertising and no third-party tracking, and sets no cookies. Apart from the anonymous visit counts above, there are no analytics. See also the terms of use.
Children
Amin is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Your choices
- Export your data to Excel or a backup file at any time (More › Backup).
- Delete everything on a device with More › Backup › A complete reset, or by uninstalling.
- Delete Amin's copy in Google Drive as described above.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
